A small Tribute to CHADWICK BOSEMAN .

Aside from his consummate elegance as a performer, Chadwick Boseman radiated an earnest and gentle aura.

He was more than Black Panther; he was playing a part in triggering meaningful change, both in film and society.

His untimely passing is a tragedy. This year takes a heavy toll.

In 2019, during Denzel Washington’s AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony, Boseman delivered a speech that floored both Denzel and the audience present.

Boseman appeared almost emaciated; my instinct was that this was in preparation for an upcoming part. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to have been the case.

During that speech, Boseman, while referring to Denzel’s generosity and his impact on fellow black actors, said:

“An offering from a sage and a king is more than silver and gold. It is a seed of hope, a bud of faith.”

And while Boseman directed those words at Denzel, they are just as apt for his contribution – Black Panther (2018) changed everything; it was a seed of hope.

And his performance as T’Challa, one that conveyed immense strength and dignity, was instrumental in Black Panther impacting culture in the manner it did.

That he suffered in silence while working on his craft and bringing to life rich characters through his gift, reveals more about his character than any words I could ever conjure.

The fortitude required for such an effort is beyond my grasp; it is yet another feat of immense strength and dignity, but this time, in life, not on screen. Chadwick Boseman was extraordinary.

His movies will endure as a beacon, a light that will eternally serve as a reminder of his undeniable talents as a performer.

But Boseman was more than an actor; more than Black Panther – he was a ray of hope and inspiration to millions.

That ray will shine on, and so will Chadwick Boseman’s towering legacy.

"In my culture, death is not the end. It’s more of a stepping-off point. You reach out with both hands, and Bast and Sekhmet, they lead you into the green veld where you can run forever."

Rest in power, King Chadwick.
